This week on Wednesday we found out our pen pals from Arizona America !!

My buddys are Josefina and Eric and they go to Lincoln Elementry School. We are writing to them and we will get to know them better.
Sharlene was the only teacher in South Canterbury that said YES!
I'm really looking forward to writing to my buddy. I think we will be really good friends.

This term for art we have been doing 3D soft toys with Mrs Wilsher, using old material or old clothes we no longer need (its called being sustainable). We needed to pick what soft toy we wanted to do. Then we picked what material we wanted to use.We got our pattern pieces and traced them on to the material. Then we cut it out.We sewed the pieces together.Once we sewed them together we sewed the pieces on the main part of the soft toy. Then we stuffed them.Soon they will be on display.

On Thursday 28th of October The Wearable Arts competition was held in our Bluestone School hall.
The group that I was in had Izzy Docherty, Kera Notton, Siobhan Connolly and Me , Skyla May.
I was the model for our group. It was quite scary and very nerve-breaking but apart from that it was very exciting and exhilarating.

Our lovely but absolutely horrid costume was made from Kera's old dress that she was so kind enough to let us use and stick at least 50-60 ties on.

The wings that were underneath the dress were just an old poly-prop and had at least 17 ties on each side of the arms to symbolise wings hanging down or flopping down.

Our beak was quite large and kept on getting hit by people walking past. "I'm surprised that the beak didn't fall off the mask or the browney-black painted mask or the orangey-yellowey-blackey paint didn't scratch off".

The shoes were made from my old shoes and some paper-mache toes to really look good.We also put pieces of glass on the shoes to really show that birds and any animals are dying of pollution and that was the message we were tying to tell everybody.

Wearable Arts was really out there too, because the lighting was amazing the audience and the judges were great. ''I have loved the experience and can't wait until next year!"

bluestone inquiry

My inquiry is all about Possums.
Grace and I are up to making it look really good. We are nearly finished because we have checked it against our rubric.
We should be able to finish it today. Lots of other people are doing things like Oil spills,Whales
and Penguins. We should all do well.

Athletic Practise

Room 14 has been getting ready for athletics this term. Which is hard to find a time to have a race. We have had a practice to show us what will happen, we have also been practicing relay and long jump. This is good Sharlene says. We are getting better at it. It has been good though the practice will hopefully pay off. Also last term we ran round the field and versed people on the play ground which helped us too.

This term in Room 14 we have been working on sustainability for our inquiry learning. Sustainability is about keeping things clean and un-polluted and things keep going.

For sustainability our class made paper. It was a lot of fun and our groups made a reasonable amount of paper and shared it out fairly around the others in the group.

We all got a sustainability book and wrote things in it and watched videos on you tube about sustainability. It was great to watch the videos because they taught us a lot about it.

My favourite part about sustainability was the activities my group the "New Moons" did.
We got the option to either make a flip chart or create a poster.I choose to do a poster. I made it about the gecko.

Sustainability is a very exciting topic you learn heaps and will always want to learn more.

Spelling quiz by Abby

On Wednesday the second of June 2010 Two groups from the High flyers competed in the ODT extra spelling quiz at the boys high hall.It was quiet hard, but we managed. The two teams were:Abby from room 14,Maddy from Room15 and Richard also from Room15. We were in Bluestone two.In Bluestone one there were: Laura and Samantha from Room 13 and Courtney L from Room 16.
We had to do stuff sort of like this,
"what are the root words for these? making, eating and saving. "

There was also an adult's
quiz and they seemed to like it.

I liked the spot that Bluestone One and Two got to sit in, because we were right up at the front so when we had to run up and give our answers to the adults up the front. We could just walk like seven steps and we were already there.

My favourite part was the missing letter a and b. But missing letter b was so hard. What we had to do was...the person up the front would call out five hints and then you have to try and guess what she is talking about. The first missing letter was easy..... it was earthquake. But the second one was hard it was... cycleways.

The spelling words were easy but the activities weren't.My group got a photo for the Courier newspaper.I enjoyed the quiz a lot.The quiz went for one hour and a half.I was tired when I got home.

Draft writing

This term we have been writing fiction stories. First we planed our stories in our draft writing book. Then we drafted our story, then we reworked our drafted story and edited our story.
Once Sharlene has checked our spelling so we don't get any words wrong in our published copy, we can use the laptops to publish.

Brian Falkner visits Bluestone

On Wednesday the 28 of April famous author Brian Falkner visited our school.Brian told us a lot and most of it was funny. He acted out Little Red Riding Hood and gave us a thought none of us wanted to hear. Although it was true that the wolf stole grandmas clothes and the sight of her jumping out with no clothes on was funny.
Brian gave us the key to success. It was the two words what and if.He showed us a story graph. It was all so exciting for us.
After the showing of the graph we had a competition of taste testing the cups of different types of fizzy drinks. Annika, Cullen, Josh, Olivia and myself were in the competition. Cullen and I won a book and a pen and the others won the pens too.
After Brain Break five groups of four people competed for prizes in the writing sports. It was so competitive I mean you could tell all the groups wanted to win but in the end the book worm team won the prizes. They scored 93 and our room got 90. It was such a close draw. By lunch time people had Crunchies, pens with the web site of Brian's and even his books. He signed some of them too. It was such a fun filled day.
